Lee Mitchell was proud of his players despite conceding an injury-time winner to lose 3-2 against Boldmere St Michaels.
Goals from Ella Thompson-Moulding and Leah Hardy saw the Imps ahead at the break, but a late header from Jess Keeling ultimately meant the points would travel back to Boldmere.
Mitchell said: “They haven’t walked away from here thinking they’ve cruised; they’ve had to battle.
“It was always going to be a tight game, and we gave them a good fight, but it’s the small margins that make the difference at this level.”
Mitchell felt that the weather had a big role to play in the match, with the wind swirling against his side in the second half.
He added: “When we came out in the second half and we were 2-1 up, the wind played a huge factor.
“We had to try and stop the shots, because they were going to turn and shoot from anywhere and I thought we did well with that really, it’s just a shame we were undone by a set piece.”
The Imps are back in action on Sunday 24 September at Sutton Coldfield Town.
