Mitchell wants Imps on their A game

Lee Mitchell knows his side will need to be at their best if they are to secure a result against league leaders Stourbridge on Sunday.

The Imps suffered defeat in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, but the City head coach is hoping for a positive reaction on Sunday.

He said: “We know we have a decent squad and have talent within it, it’s whether the girls are up for the fight for 90 minutes. If they are, we’ll be fine – but we need to bring our A game.

“We deserved nothing less on the day at Stourbridge earlier in the season, but that was not a true reflection of our squad. These players are more than capable of beating anyone in the league, but they will need to be collectively together and in the right mindset.”

The Imps sit eighth in the FAWNL National League Division One Midlands and Mitchell is hoping for a positive end to the season to lay the foundations for a strong 2023/24 campaign.

He added: “This is a tough league and you can’t always be at the top every season. We have to be patient and rely on local talent and prospects coming through the ranks which means you’re going to have some great seasons where you have to go for it, and others where you have to tick along.

“Our main goal is making sure we’re not in the danger zone and focusing on finishing as high as we can in the league. That is then the springboard to the following season and is the preparation we need to do moving forward.”
