Lee Mitchell wants his side to finish the season strongly as they return to league action against Peterborough United on Thursday evening.
City’s manager was not prepared to let his side enjoy Sunday’s 6-1 win over Stamford for long, with key FAWNL Division One Midlands fixtures coming up.
He said: “It will be a tough few days ahead for everyone as we’re back in for training on Tuesday to work on a few things to get ready for Peterborough - they also had a good win in their County Cup against Northampton so will be full of confidence.
“We know they’re a good side and what they’ll bring to the table, so we’ve got to be ready to go on Thursday then we go to Doncaster the following weekend, so it’s two big derbies back-to-back for us.”
With just seven league fixtures left in the campaign, Mitchell is keen for his side to finish strongly and lay strong foundations for next season.
He added: “We want to finish strongly and be in the top half of the table. That’s our goal right now, to keep picking up points. We want to always be challenging and competitive, but we’ve got to think long-term with the young players we’ve got coming through - what the next three to five years could look like for Lincoln City Women is very exciting.
“They are getting opportunities that they may or may or may not have had before - they're grabbing it we both hands and working their socks off. And for all these young players who want to improve themselves, there's an experienced player that is being asked to hold on to their spot as well. It brings in real competition for the rest of the season.”
“It’s important to develop the players and give them an opportunity when the time comes - and you’ve seen already the players coming through are more than capable of making an impact.”
