Rachael Howes described her excitement about starting the season at the LNER Stadium against Notts County on Sunday.

City Women will watch the Lionesses in the World Cup final with fans before taking to the pitch against the Magpies to kick off their FAWNL campaign.

Howes said: “I’m really excited for the season to start on Sunday, and it’s even better that the match is here at the LNER stadium - I’m really looking forward to it.

“Hopefully people will come down and support their local team, and get a good idea about what the women’s football pyramid has to offer.”

Notts County are an unknown factor for the Imps after getting promoted last season, and Howes is aware of the challenge the team will face.

“I’ve never personally played them before, but they’re obviously new to this level, so I’m sure they’ve brought some new players in and will have a point to prove at this tier.”
