Chantelle Robinson's winner saw City stretch their winning run to three games.
The Imps started brightly and dominated the early exchanges but the first significant chance went to Wem who in the 24th minute hit the bar, forced a save from Lana Timson and hit the roof of the net with a chip in the same passage of play.
That chance did not slow the Imps down as they immediately got back on the attack and scored through Jess Rousseau. The forward found a bit of space on the edge of the box and struck the ball low and hard across the goalkeeper into the bottom right corner.
The Imps found a lot of joy on the left-hand side in the first half and almost doubled their lead through Chyna McIntosh. The ball fell to the midfielder in the box and she was able to get a decent connection on it sending the ball inches wide.
During half-time Lee Mitchell made a substitution, replacing Katie Williams with Tilly Fantom at centre-back.
Despite Wem growing into the game as the second half proceeded, the Imps were still pushing forward and creating chances. Jess Rousseau looked to double hers and the team's goal tally after 51 minutes, but sent the opportunity over the bar.
Maddi Green had been a threat from the wings for the entire game and continued that trend after a mesmerising run, followed by a shot that trickled millimetres wide.
Despite the chances to double the lead, Mitchell’s side were pegged back by the visitors in the 66th minute. A long ball over the top following an Imps corner found Kimberley Bebbington who slotted the ball across Timson and into the bottom left corner.
After the goal, both teams pushed for the win and the Imps found the clincher after 81 minutes. Green played it across the box from the left into Robinson, who calmly slotted the ball into the net.
