Women set for season opener

Several Lincoln City Women carry out a running drill on sunny day.

Lincoln City Women will open their FAWNL Division One Midlands 2024/25 campaign against Loughborough Lightning on Sunday.

It follows the creation of a pathway for girls all the way through to the first-team at the Imps, with the womens team fully integrated into the clubs Academy for the first time.

That has given the team the best training facilities since their creation, with full use of the gym and training facilities at the Academys base at Riseholme College as well as access to the Academys coaching support structure.

Sunday will be Charlotte Dinsdales first match as head coach having joined this summer to lead a new-look team behind the scenes. With support from the Academy and womens technical director Jon Pepper, Charlotte is joined by goalkeeping coach George Bellerby, strength & conditioning coach Josh McLauchlan and physio Mark Jansen.

Home games will be played at the KAL Group Stadium, home of Gainsborough Trinity, providing the best possible playing surface for the team.

Citys Elite Performance Centre training ground does not meet Football Association requirements, although the club are looking into upgrades to allow home games to be played there on a regular basis. There will also be matches played at the LNER Stadium.

Jon said: It was clear from talking to the players and coaching staff that they wanted to play on the best possible surface, which is why weve spent a lot of time this summer looking into options.

We know the facilities are excellent, but the Elite Performance Centre doesnt meet the Football Association requirements so it cannot yet be a permanent base for us.

Weve supported the players by finding the best possible pitch. We know Gainsborough Trinity will be great hosts, but we will continue to explore options to allow a return to Lincoln in the mid term.”
