Michael Skubala was pleased his side got more minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Walsall.
Preparations for the 2024/25 campaign continued on Tuesday afternoon at the Bescot Stadium as the Imps ran out 2-1 winners, with goals coming from Jovon Makama and Tom Bayliss.
Skubala said: “It was a fantastic run out and was good to get some more minutes in the legs against tough opposition that are very physical and direct.
“It’s just making sure we balance the workload as we’re building, getting minutes in the legs without getting injuries and then trying to implement what we’re doing on the training pitch into the game.
“I thought we could’ve had more - at times we looked really good. It’s now just making sure it’s 90 minutes of that - which is what we’re building towards.”
Heading into the final stretch of pre-season Skubala is happy with how the Imps are progressing ahead of their next test at Harrogate Town this weekend.
He added: “I’m happy so far, the squad’s coming together. The tactical understanding is coming together, the physicality is building, and the fitness is improving so we can play with more intensity. So far, so good but we’ve got to keep going.”
