Michael Skubala feels his side can take a lot of positives from the performance despite narrowly losing 2-1 to Barnsley.
Ben House’s second-half strike put the Imps back into the game after Sam Cosgrove and Marc Roberts had given the Tykes a two-goal lead, but despite battling hard City came up short.
Skubala said: “It was a tough scoreline, all in all when we look back at that game we’ll say we played well.
“We managed to get ourselves back into the game in the second half and had opportunities to level. We had eight chances throughout the game, so it proves we’re moving in the right direction, and I felt we could’ve won it on another day."
City’s head coach paid credit to a physical Barnsley team but was frustrated that his side came up empty-handed.
He continued: “They changed their team to deal with our physicality and our set pieces which made it difficult at both ends, but I thought we played some great stuff.
“We moved the ball well in the second half, we were getting in, we probably should’ve scored a couple but all in all it’s disappointing because when you play well you want to get something out of the game.”
