Head coach Michael Skubala felt it was a pleasing night as his side secured progress to the next round of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy by defeating Manchester City U21 5-0 in their final group stage game at the LNER Stadium.
Freddie Draper and Bailey Cadamarteri were on the scoresheet in the first-half before Rob Street and JJ McKiernan opened their Imps accounts, as did 17-year-old Zane Okoro on his full professional debut.
Skubala said: "I thought the lads were magnificent. From start to finish we had complete control of the game and it was a really good professional performance. We said before we came into it that it was a bit of a jigsaw puzzle in terms of working out our team and tactics with what we had to do, but it was a good night.
"We were really on point and are growing all the time. It's not always about how well we play, but how we manage games. There have been times when we can manage games better but I felt on the night we really managed what is a very good possession-based opposition, who have beaten other teams, but we were really good with the ball in and out of possession."
He added: "Zane (Okoro) was magnificent when you talk about young players on that pitch. There are players who haven't played a lot who played for us tonight, but they got minutes, got through the game and it was a pleasing night.
"I was also really pleased to see Rob Street get his goal too. He put a shift in on the night and that will help him."
