Head coach Michael Skubala hailed the grit within his team as they battled to a 1-0 away win at Stevenage.
Jack Moylan marked his first start of the season with the decisive goal as City claimed victory at the Lamex Stadium to extend their good start to the campaign.
Skubala said: "We knew coming to this place it was going to be really tough, and that it would be a war of attrition. We had to stand up to it and having that wind against us in the first half made it a little bit harder.
"It wasn't a great 90 minutes of football but we have to win those, and it was a decent three points on the road. We fought for everything."
He continued: "I'm really pleased with how we dug in. We maybe needed a little bit more quality when the ball did settle today, but I'm proud of the performance and we matched their physicality.
"I'm proud of the group, and the depth we have on the bench to keep to the level and intensity showed today.
"We knew the backline would have to stand up to it, and they did. To get our first clean sheet away at a tough place is fantastic."
