Head coach Michael Skubala hailed the way Academy graduates Jovon Makama and Freddie Draper inspired City to victory over Leyton Orient on Saturday.

The 20-year-old pair, who have played together since joining the Imps as scholars at 16, were instrumental in the victory with both on the scoresheet.

Head coach Michael Skubala said: “I thought Jovon’s quality shone through. I was proud of him because he got his goal, and he has done the business out there.

Makama was joined by Draper on the scoresheet, his second in three league games. Skubala was pleased with the academy’s positive contribution to the first team.

He added: “You look at Jovon, Freddie and Sean Roughan who have come through the Academy and we have to be proud of that they are leading the line and looking threatening.

"We have three Academy players in there causing damage. We have to be really proud of that as a club.

"Freddie took his goal brilliantly. We thought it would need a second goal to make it safe. It was a great pass from Erik Ring and what a finish from Freddie - it was a superb finish.”

City’s head coach was delighted with his player’s response at the start of the second half.

He added: “In the first half we weren’t at it. It's been a long week with travelling, I thought we lacked a bit of energy. In the second half we looked a threat, we came out fast and we came out strong.

"I’m really pleased with the second half, and the response from the first half. That shows character.”
