Skubala: As a group we defended really well

Michael Skubala celebrates at full-time of the win over Huddersfield Town

City head coach Michael Skubala praised his side's resolve as they defeated promotion-chasing Huddersfield Town 1-0 to make it four games unbeaten at the LNER Stadium.

Tom Bayliss' corner delivery was flicked on by Adam Jackson and tapped home by Reeco Hackett to clinch the victory.

Skubala said: "We work so hard on them so it's really pleasing to score against a team who defend them so well.

"We had a threat on the counter and want to build on that. We also want to keep defending like that - Adam Jackson was involved in the goal and so important at the back again for us.

"Our back four were magnificent and as a whole group we defended really well. I can't remember Huddersfield having a shot on target so to do that against a top team in this league is great.

"The whole group showed us what they had and it was a great three points. Everybody did well - we were defensively solid and structured really well."

Skubala feels his side rose to the challenge against play-off hopefuls on Tuesday night, and is ready for another test at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

He added: "Charlton are on that run that everyone wants at the end of the season - they're a really powerful team and will ask different questions from us.

"We're away from home so know it'll be a big challenge, but again we look at it as how we can go there and get a result."

Scorer Hackett was asked about his winning goal, and said: "It was a good ball in, I saw Jacko flick it on and I just had to make sure I got there. It was a set-piece routine we've worked on and it was nice to see it work out.

"When you see the hard work paying off, like we have over the course of the season, everyone buys into it because we know our strength from set-pieces."
