Skubala felt Imps competed well at Wycombe

Head coach Michael Skubala felt his side performed well enough at Wycombe Wanderers to have deserved a point.

City had started the second half brightly after a tight first half where nether side truly tested the opposition’s goalkeeper, but were undone when Cameron Humphreys capitalised on a slip from Sean Roughan to fire home the only goal of the game.

Skubala said: “Both sides defended well in the first half but we started the second half well and came out as the better team, and for a spell we looked like we were on top and having better territory.

“We swapped a few things around at half-time to have more control of the game, and I thought we did that but were done on the transition. We didn’t do enough to win the game but it also feels harsh to have lost -  we just didn’t test their keeper enough to get back into the game.”

City are back in action at the LNER Stadium on Tuesday evening when Huddersfield Town visit Lincolnshire.

Skubala added: “We want to test ourselves against these god teams, to see how we can develop and grow. We kept their good forwards like Richard Kone quiet, but we need more threat ourselves.”

Defender Tendayi Darikwa is confident his team-mates will not dwell on the defeat. He said: “They’re in a good position in the league, but they didn’t create many clear cut chances and a point would have been fair for both teams.

“We know from our viewpoint the goal came from an individual slip - but that is part and parcel of the game. We’ll stick by each other and keep going to finish the season as strong as possible.”
