Sam Tillen was proud of his side’s performance following a defeat on penalties at Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.
City battled back from two goals down and continued to search for a winner in extra time but it wasn’t to be for the young Imps as they went out at the fourth round stage - matching the club record.
Tillen said: “This is something they can take forward as they progress in their careers. They should be very proud of their achievements and hopefully they’ll look back on it with fond memories.
“It’s been a very good campaign; one we’ve learned a great deal from. It’s a difficult way to go out of the competition, but I think everything from the boys was on show."
City ended the game with three U16s on the pitch along with U14 striker Jaxon Tomak, who made a big impact and levelled the scores after coming on at half-time to become one of the youngest scorers in the competition's history.
Tillen added: “We decided to change tactically as Jaxon is a natural striker. Once he come on and we changed shape I thought a better side and a more potent threat.
“For Jaxon to get a goal on his youth team debut at Home Park in this competition will be a fantastic moment for him to look back on and it’s a great stage for him to announce himself.”
