Okoro wants more after goalscoring debut

Zane Okoro is congratulated by Jovon Makama after his goal

Zane Okoro wants to continue to impress after scoring on his first start for the Imps on Tuesday night.

Okoro was named in Michael Skubala’s starting XI for the first time just eight days after making his professional debut against Chesham United, and scored a curling effort from the edge of the area in the second half as the Imps secured progression to the knockout stages of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy with a 5-0 win against Manchester City U21.

He said: “I’ve just been taking it step-by-step and grasping every opportunity that I get. It’s surreal but it’s also about trying to push on and keep moving forward and improving.

“The goal was one of my better finishes, definitely one of the more memorable ones that I’ll look back on in years to come.”

Okoro highlighted the Academy pathway at the Imps, which has seen a number of young players go on to become key members of City’s first team squad, as motivation to continue his development.

He added: “This club has a really good pathway for younger players especially with guys like Oisin and Jovon, Sean has come through as well.

“That sets a really good example for the younger lads like myself and the others younger than me.”

City return to home action on Saturday 23 November when we host Wycombe Wanderers (3pm KO). Click HERE for tickets.
