Lewis Montsma was disappointed to exit the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night but was thrilled to get back into competitive action 15 months after suffering a third injury to one of his anterior cruciate ligaments.
The central defender spent a long period on the sidelines but played over 75 minutes against Harrogate Town to mark his return.
He said: “It’s always difficult coming in for a game like this. It’s different from pre-season - it was tough.
“I’m not happy with the result of course, there’s a few things to work on, but the biggest thing is I’m back and playing.
“It was very nice to be back out there.”
Goals from Sam Folarin and James Daly saw the Sulphurites progress, and Montsma is keen to bounce back against Barnsley.
He added: “After every game you lose you want to make it right in the next game. I have no doubt we will respond on Saturday.”
