Match preview | Peterborough United vs Imps

Peterborough preview.

City are in Sky Bet League One action for the first time in September as they travel to Peterborough United on Saturday 14 September (3pm KO).

Read about what Michael Skubala and midfielder Ethan Erhahon said ahead of the fixture as well as important match information in this preview.

Skubala’s thoughts:

“We had a couple of days off and then got back into it. We’ve just been working on our principles and how we want to play, and that never changes for us. We want to improve in the final third and look into how we can be calmer in certain situations.”

[On Paudie O’Connor’s unavailability] “That’s why we went for the strategy of depth in the summer, we know over the course of the season that you’re going to have injuries and suspensions. It’s important to have that depth, and it’s an opportunity for those players coming in. I’m more than confident about the people stepping in to do the job.”

“[On Peterborough test] We have to take it like every game, it’s a challenge for another three points. It’s going to be tough, they’re a good side, they’re great with the ball especially at home. We can win the game if we play to our strengths and catch them out on their weaknesses - just like any game.”

Erhahon’s take:

[On Skubala] “He’s bringing different ideas that I haven’t had from other head coaches in my career. We sat down on Tuesday and went through some clips together which is always good because it supports me through things I can work on, and he can point out things I’m doing well.”

“It’s always a tough game against Peterborough, but we’ll look to implement our game plan. We’ve started really well, we could even be four out of four if you look at the Barnsley game. We’re happy with where we are and we’re just looking to build our momentum up for the rest of the season.”

A look at the opposition:

It’s been a mixed start to the campaign for Darren Ferguson’s Posh side, with last season’s beaten play-off semi-finalists collecting six points from their first four games.

Peterborough have been a threat on their travels, beating Exeter and Shrewsbury away from home, but have also suffered back-to-back 2-0 losses on their own patch against Huddersfield Town and Wrexham.

City’s last match against Posh saw the teams play out a goalless draw at the LNER Stadium at the turn of the year.

The losses of Harrison Burrows, Ronnie Edwards and Ephron Mason-Clark are sure to have an impact, but United’s track record of signing under-rated young talent will surely bear fruit once again as they look to push for promotion.

Match information:

The Imps will be back in their white away strip for the first time since the opening day as they travel to the Weston Homes Stadium.

Tom Reeves is the man with the whistle on Saturday, with Christopher Husband and Darren Wilding supporting him as assistant referees. Jamie O’Connor will be the fourth official.
