Match preview | Cambridge United vs Imps

Cambridge (A) preview.

The Imps travel to Cambridge United on Saturday 28 September (3pm KO) in the hopes of extending their unbeaten run on the road.

Catch up on what Michael Skubala and midfielder Tom Bayliss have had to say ahead of the fixture, as well as important match information in this preview.

Skubala’s thoughts:

“We are doing really well away from home but I think we’re a tough team to play against both home and away. We like to take the game to teams. Hopefully that can keep going and we can keep pushing. It’s going to be a tough place to go on Saturday and we’ve got to really be on it to get three points.

“They’ll be fighting for every point and looking for a formula and solution for their team, so I’m not sure what their team is going to be and who the personnel is, which has changed quite a lot. We’ve got to look after our game, at this stage of the season you can think there are easier games but there’s not.

“We’ve got to be really focused, bring a lot of energy. They’re at home, they’ll want to take the game to us. They can hurt teams but we’ve got to go and dominate the game as much as we can.”

Bayliss’ take:

“It’s been a good start all round and with the way the team is gelling it’s coming together. The competition is positive to have, you’ve got lads that are on the bench that feel like they should be starting. It’s a squad game and I think we’ll now start to see that in this busy period.

“We know it’ll be a tough game, especially away from home so we’re going there wary of what they are good at but we also want to be good at what we’re good at. I’ve played there a couple of times and it’s never been easy but hopefully we can go and get three points.”

A look at the opposition:

It’s been a disappointing start to the 24/25 campaign for Garry Monk’s Cambridge United, having picked up just a solitary point from their opening six fixtures.

That point was a good one however as the U’s showed spirit to fight-back from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 at home to Blackpool.

City’s last trip to the Cledara Abbey Stadium resulted in the Imps taking maximum points thanks to a 3-0 victory - Skubala’s second win as head coach.

During the summer transfer window Cambridge picked up the experience of Shayne Lavery and Korey Smith while also bringing in exciting young talents such as Emmanuel Longelo on a loan deal.
