Sam Tillen was pleased with the attacking threat shown by his side as they beat Grimsby Town in the Lincolnshire Derby.
The young Imps raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Sammy Corkhill, Timi Bada and Dakara Wifa before two more goals from the latter helped Tillen’s side to a 5-2 victory at the Elite Performance Centre.
He said: “We looked a real threat in wide areas, finishing an attack that started on our right through Timi and ended at the far post with Sammy following up Will’s effort for his first goal for the U18s.
“Another incisive move down our left, led to Timi grabbing his first for us. We spoke about the importance of being direct in wide areas and filling the box, so to score two goals like that was very satisfying.”

Tillen highlighted the importance of getting a goal just after the break to avoid letting the visitors back into the game, and praised Charlie Carlisle who captained the side.
He continued: “The lads were very positive at the break, we aimed to try and grab a 4th goal early in the second half to take away the momentum from Grimsby if possible and Dakara stepped up almost immediately with a sublime strike restore the 4 goal advantage.
“There were a number of positives, our two trialists did well, Charlie Carlisle seemed to cover every blade of grass in midfield and we were a real threat in the forward areas.”
