Sam Tillen praised the work rate of his players after the young Imps secured a place in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.
City battled hard to a 4-2 win against Wrexham at the LNER Stadium with goals from Dakara Wifa, Zane Okoro and Dan Vanderpuye.
He said: “I’m really pleased with the result. The boys had to work hard for it.
“Some of the lads have been nursing injuries and haven't trained as much or at all in the build up to this, so they did really well to get through it. We managed to do what we needed to do.”
Tillen praised forward Vanderpuye, after his first goal in the competition helped the Imps into round four.
He said: “Dan has been working hard all season on his game. He was in the right place, he’s been working hard on being in those positions, and it was very unselfish from Zane, he could have had a shot. It’s a reward for all of his hard work throughout the season.”
Tillen is now looking ahead to the next round of the competition and added: “It’s taken a lot of hard work from not only the players but from the staff around the team to get the lads into this position and hopefully we can get another good draw and try to progress even further.”
