Ford shows adaptability in Walsall win

Carter Ford in action during City U18s' win over Walsall

Carter Ford is pleased to have the trust of the coaching staff after a change of position against Walsall.

The young Imps extended their league unbeaten run to nine games at the Elite Performance Centre with a 1-0 victory against the Saddlers.

Ford lined up in a midfield position, moving from his usual right wing-back role.

Ford said: “I’ve been playing a lot at right wing-back recently but I stepped into midfield today so it’s different, but it’s nice that Sam trusts me and I can show what I can do.”

It was a third clean sheet of the season for City’s U18 side and Ford picked out 16-year-old Lewy Oliver for praise after his performance in central defence.

He continued: “It’s important to still come away with the wins in these sort of games. It was a difficult one, we still have room for improvement but overall it was good to get the win.

“The defence did really well, especially in the last 25 minutes. We really had to grind it out. Lewy Oliver really stepped up as well, he’s only a young lad.”
