City are working with local footballing organisations to celebrate Black History Month this October.
The Imps’ home game against Birmingham City on Saturday 19 October will see the EFL’s Together Against Racism campaign promoted.
On Sunday 20 October, the Branston Legends Lounge will host a Black History Month art exhibition and panel, in collaboration with Lincolnshire FA, Lincoln Embracing All Nations, and the Redeemed Christian Church of God to help celebrate heritage and narratives.
City defender Tendayi Darikwa will join former Imps Jason Lee and Gavin Gordon, as well as current Lincolnshire grassroots referee Michael Howard, to discuss their heritage, experiences, and what Black History Month means to them.
Tendayi, a Zimbabwean international with 13 caps, has been with the Imps since this summer and has been ever-present in the league so far. His impressive career has seen him play for clubs at Conference North level (now National League North) right through to the Premier League.
Former Imps striker Jason was involved at the club between 1991 and 1993, scoring 21 goals in league competition as part of a career which saw him play in the Premier League for multiple years. Since 2013 Jason has been an equality, diversity and inclusion executive for the Professional Footballers’ Association.
Another former Imps striker, Gavin, represented the Imps between 1997 and 2000. During this time, he scored 32 goals in 114 appearances across all competitions. Still a familiar face at the Imps, Gavin is chairman of the Former Players’ Association and regularly acts as an expert summariser on games for Radio Lincolnshire.
The event is free of charge, but pre-booking is necessary and there is a maximum capacity. Doors will open from 2pm, with the event to begin at 2.30pm. The Legends Lounge will remain open for attendees wishing to watch Liverpool v Chelsea (4.30pm KO).
