Former City player Neil Matthews has sadly passed away at the age of 56 following a battle with cancer.
Neil joined the Imps in December 1992 from Stockport County and was initially on loan before his move became permanent in February of the following year.
He made his Imps debut when he came off the bench at Rochdale on 19 December 1992 and marked the occasion by scoring.
Neil scored in both of his next two appearances and finished his first season as second top scorer with 11 league goals from 21 starts.
In total he made 79 league and cup appearances for the Imps plus another 17 games as a substitute, scoring 22 goals in the process.
Neil spent recent years as academy manager at Bradford City and the thoughts of everyone at the Imps are with his friends and family at this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Neil.
