Foyle hopes for big crowd in Floodlit Cup final

Ash Foyle is hoping City fans come out to support his side in Wednesday evening’s U17 Floodlit Cup final against Swindon Town (7pm KO).

Foyle wants the backing to help the lads on the night, but also give them new skills to take into their future careers in football or elsewhere.

He said: “The more support we can get down there not only helps us potentially win the game, but it adds to the learning of our players and gets them ready for stepping out in front of a crowd and feeling that pressure of performing in front of people.

“This might be an opportunity that comes around once in their careers and the best game they play in, and performing under pressure is a transferrable skill they can take into the rest of their playing careers or even a world without football if it panned out that way.”

The young Imps progressed to the U17 Floodlit Cup final after a Bailey Adamson hat-trick propelled them to a 3-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers.

He added: “It would be great for fans to come down and give the lads some extra motivation to go and get some noise generated from the crowd to make it an atmosphere. The team will remember this for life and memories that will stick in the mind for a long, long time.

“This is a great opportunity for them to play under pressure, something we don’t get enough in youth football. The more fans we can get down there and the more raucous the atmosphere, the more memorable it becomes for the lads: we’re not only creating memories, but we are creating fantastic learning environments to improve and get used to.”
