Tyler Walker thanked supporters for their reaction after he pulled on the red and white shirt for the first time since returning to City this summer.
Walker played 45 minutes in Saturday afternoon’s friendly against Rotherham United, and the striker was pleased to be back playing at the LNER Stadium.
He said: “I was really happy to be back, I got a good reception as well so I can’t thank the fans enough. It was great to be back playing in front of them.
“It was a good workout for the boys, and it was nice to get my first minutes of pre-season so I’m really happy with that.”
Saturday provided Walker with his first minutes in pre-season with the forward on a specific programme to build up his fitness ahead of the season opener at Bolton Wanderers next weekend.
He added: “I came in late, so I got my first minutes. I just need to build-up my fitness, and then be available to play every week.
“We’ll continue working on different things in training and make sure all the tactical work is nailed down ahead of the different opponents we’ll face.”
