Mark Kennedy is pleased with the progress his side have made in pre-season following the Imps’ 1-1 draw with King’s Lynn Town.
Following a pre-season camp in Spain, Kennedy feels his side are getting closer to being ready for the Sky Bet League One season.
He said: “It's all about getting minutes in. It's a fitness exercise, and it's 100% better than training.
“We are working on a lot of tactical stuff and you want to see that come out. We do care about it, and it is important because we work in an environment where we want to win games - that will never leave you as a professional.
“But at this stage the focus is on fitness, everybody getting minutes and kilometres into their legs, and hopefully coming through unscathed.”
Kennedy named two different teams for each half against the Linnets, with a number of young players all getting minutes at The Walks Stadium.
He said: “We love working with them. They bring attitude, endeavour, enthusiasm and professionalism - they’re a joy to work with and to have around. They train well and do themselves proud everyday.”
He added: “We have to be mindful that we don’t want to stunt their development or knock it back. I’ll be really pleased if someone comes out of the fire and we have another Sean Roughan.
"I couldn’t think of anything better, but it would be unfair to make those judgements now. They’ve been a pleasure to work with and they’ve done brilliantly.”
