Changes to the LNER Stadium infrastructure over the summer have had an impact to the capacity for the 23/24 campaign.
As part of the installation of safe standing barriers in GBM Upper 7, the club have been able to reinstate a row of seats in that block - meaning block Upper 7 is returned to its original capacity of 420 seats.
The North East Stand, which was initially installed in 2021, has now been removed to create more space for improved internal concourses.
Director of operations Damian Froggatt said: "The installation of the North East Stand in 2021 was well-documented as part of our requirements to meet regulations for away supporters when the Stacey West redevelopment was originally proposed.
"But since that project has been redesigned, we’ve had less of a demand for the extra seating and, listening to the needs of supporters in that section of the stadium, it made sense to look at how we could make better use of the space. We plan to introduce improved catering facilities for both the SRP Stand and away fans in this area, which we hope will improve the matchday experience for many supporters.
"We’ve always wanted to reinstate the extra seats in GBM Upper 7 because we recognise the value of the atmosphere created from that block. Installing barriers as part of our safe standing project has enabled us to do just that, meaning that even more supporters will benefit from being able to stand safely.”
The combination of the two projects means the official LNER Stadium capacity for 23/24 will be 10,669. The projects were made possible by investment from the club’s board as part of the long-term strategy to improve the club’s infrastructure.
