Mark Kennedy felt the experience of Saturday’s friendly win at Crewe Alexandra will leave his side in good stead as they prepare for the 2023/24 season.
City had to come from behind at the Mornflake Stadium, with two goals from Danny Mandroiu sealing the 2-1 victory.
Kennedy said: “There was some really good football and passages of play, and we were comfortable in possession.
“But we also saw the reality of football, having to come back from a goal down and deal with some slightly fractured play. It’s nice to win a game like that at times.”
City will continue their pre-season schedule with a trip to the North-East Lincolnshire coast to take on Grimsby Town on Tuesday evening.
Kennedy will rotate his squad and is expecting to name a starting XI completely different to the once which started at Crewe Alexandra. He added: “The lads that started here won’t be starting on Tuesday.
“I appreciate it’s a local derby, but it’s an important training exercise and the important thing is getting the load right for our players as we prepare for the season.”
