Paudie O’Connor is prepared to learn from City’s performance at Charlton Athletic.
The Imps found themselves two goals down before pulling one back through Danny Mandroiu, and O’Connor understands what needs improving ahead of City’s Papa Johns Trophy quarter-final.
He said: “I thought we started the game quite well and put them on the back foot. We have to take the positives out of it going into the cup game on Tuesday night so that we can bounce back.
“It is part of my job to try and keep things as tight as possible at the back and we have done that reasonably well, excluding a couple of performances in the last six to eight weeks.
“Hopefully we can learn from the game at Charlton and move onto the next match.”
O’Connor was pleased by the character shown from his team-mates which almost saw them salvage a point deep into second half stoppage time through Mandroiu’s fizzing effort.
He added: “I thought the lads showed good character and togetherness. We stuck at it in the second half which saw us get one back, and on another day we could have levelled.
“We changed things up in the second half and we were able to defend their efforts from wide areas a lot easier.”
