Mark Kennedy felt the 2,286 Imps fans who travelled to Pride Park on Tuesday night helped his side secure a share of the points.
City were forced to play the majority of the second half with ten men, but the travelling fans ensured the Imps extended their unbeaten run to five games.
Kennedy said: "We do what we can on the pitch, but we wouldn’t have got through that game without the fans.
"Watching them was phenomenal and we’re so grateful for them week in, week out. They constantly back us through thick and thin, and they were the basis of our team talk before the game.
"It is a real united and collected club and we don’t get to say it often, but I want to say a huge thank you on behalf of everyone. Trust me, the players are incredibly grateful."
City’s head coach was also delighted with the application of his players for earning an "outstanding point" and was full of praise for the attitude they display on a daily basis.
He added: "We've put hours into our defensive work and the players must take huge credit for that.
"I have been in football for 30 years and this group of lads are the best I have ever worked with. Their professionalism, desire and willingness to improve is second to none and they give their all for the club. I have never met a more selfless group of people.
"I am very proud of our team, our style and to be the head coach of this group and club."
