City’s number one, Carl Rushworth, recently attended a goalkeeping masterclass put on by Lincoln City Academy.
Aspiring goalkeepers between the ages of 8-16 were put through their paces by academy goalkeeping coach James Humphreys and U18 goalkeepers Isaac Allen and Sam Green.
The group were then able to take part in a question-and-answer session with Rushworth, as he gave his advice on a range of topics such as how he continues to develop his game, working under different managers, and overcoming obstacles along his journey into the professional game.
Rushworth said: “I really enjoyed the day and from what I’ve seen, the kids have too.
“Goalkeeping is the most important position on the pitch and so these sessions are really beneficial. I’m sure everyone that came along will have learnt something which they can hopefully take away and implement into their game.”
James Humphreys added: “It has been great for the kids to have Carl come down and be a figure they can relate to. They see him on the television or live in the ground and so to have that face-to-face contact is brilliant.
“The things we work on in the academy are passed on in these sessions through knowledge and advice to teach them the basics of goalkeeping which will provide them with the foundation to everything they will need as they go on and progress.
“The number of lads we have had down is brilliant and all of them have been great in their attitude, determination and willingness to learn.”
