Cup momentum pleases Kennedy

Mark Kennedy is hoping the momentum of a cup run can help his side as they look to make their mark early in the 2023/24 season.

A 2-0 win at Notts County fired City into the second round of the Carabao Cup, and head coach Kennedy is hoping to repeat last season’s record-equalling run to the fourth round.

He said: “We are very respectful of the competition and take it seriously, we want to go as fas as we can.

“Momentum is good, and we want to show who we are in a cup competition. We were outstanding, it was a really positive night and we could have won by more.”

Kennedy was pleased to see Sean Roughan and Lasse Sorensen get on the scoresheet after impressive performances.

He added: “At Bolton on Saturday I felt they both lacked a bit of belief when we wanted them to go toe-to-toe with their opposition number, which they did here.

“They’re both really good players and I’m delighted for them both after their performance and goals.”

The draw for the second round of the Carabao Cup will take place live on Sky Sports following the conclusion of the Burton Albion v Leicester City fixture on Wednesday evening. Ties will be played in the week commencing 28 August.
