City honoured for fan engagement

City have been recognised as one of the best three clubs in the EFL for fan engagement after being shortlisted for a significant prize at the EFL Awards.

The shortlist recognises the efforts employees at City have made to continuously improve matchday facilities at the LNER Stadium, with the University of Lincoln Fan Village expanded and the introduction of Poacher’s Den for the 2022/23 season.

Poacher's Den is a family-friendly area which is open before the game to provide a warm and safe space for people with the latest copies of FIFA on the Playstation or Xbox as well as the more traditional activities like Subbutteo and fussball tables.

Imps chief executive Liam Scully said: “This nomination recognises the hard work of a lot of people to create the best possible atmosphere at the stadium and the best experience for those who come to the match.

"The University of Lincoln Fan Village has has been one of the greatest successes of the football club since we returned to the EFL in 2017. It came out of consultation with fan groups who asked for more opportunities to engage and be part of the matchday. Equally, from a club point of view, it’s helped grow revenue and it’s trebled income in these areas since I’ve been at the football club.

"Giving supporters some real ownership is fundamental, giving them a range of catering facilities they’ve asked for has been rewarded with a substantial increase in footfall and increase in takings. Matchday really kicks in now when the Fan Village opens at 12noon, and is a place where home and away fans can come in and kickstart their matchday experience.

"We face significant infrastructure challenges due to our location and the age of the stadium, but we’ve worked really hard in partnership with supporter groups, our catering partners and the Foundation to make the most of what we do have.

"As a club we’re passionate about fan engagement and working alongside supporters, which is reflected in strong Family Excellence inspections and a high placing in the independent Fan Engagement Index."

Bolton Wanderers and Reading are the other two EFL clubs shortlisted for the award. City will find out if they have won the overall prize at the EFL Awards ceremony in London on 23 April.
