City Women are back in action on Sunday when they face Sheffield FC for the second match in a row - and will be hoping for the same result.
Goals from Jess Rousseau and Lucy Farrow sealed a 2-0 FAWNL Division One Midlands win over the South Yorkshire side last time out, and the quirk of the FA Women’s Cup means the same fixture is repeated in the first round of that competition.
Manager Lee Mitchell felt it was the most complete performance his side had put together this season.
He said: “Recently we’ve had peaks and troughs, but we were superb for 90 minutes.
“It has been frustrating because against Wem Town and Solihull we weren’t good enough in the first halves, and we wanted to bring the spirit of those second half performances in from the off.
“We’ve seen that for 20 or 45 minutes at times, but we’ve not seen that for 90 this season. The belief and character was still there and these players don’t quit.
“Your opponents know you a little more, and may come back with something different from them, but we want the same intensity and fight no matter what they do.
Young winger Maddi Green, a graduate of Lincoln City Foundation’s BTEC course based at the LNER Stadium this summer, impressed after being handed another start.
She said: “The girls were superb and we deserved the win, we constantly attacked like the manager told us to do.
“There’s things to improve on but we’re buzzing with the win and it gives us something to build on.”
