Imps academy graduate Freddie Draper said he felt “a burst of excitement” after netting his first senior goal for the club.
The forward, who signed a new long-term contract extension last month, came off the bench in City’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United U21 in the Papa Johns Trophy.
He said: “I thought I was going to score the first time I went through on goal. Thankfully I got another chance, took my shot and saw it go underneath the goalkeeper. As soon as it went in, I just smiled and got a burst of excitement, it was a great feeling.
“It has been frustrating to be out with an injury but being back on the grass is great. Hopefully I can play some more games and score some more goals.”
City’s number 34 is now aiming to build up some regular minutes as he aims to return to full match fitness. The striker said he is excited to do so working under Mark Kennedy, who Draper says is great to work under.
He added: “Mark is great to work with. He is always telling me what to do and where I should be both on and off of the ball.
“Personally, it is about trying to get as many games underneath my belt as possible now. Hopefully I can push those ahead of me and try to be more involved on matchdays.”
