Charles Vernam is aiming to build on Tuesday’s Carabao Cup performance as City welcome league-leaders Plymouth Argyle to the LNER Stadium.
The Imps beat Bristol City to progress into the fourth round of the competition for the second time in the club’s history during the week and Vernam is insistent to use this as positive momentum on Saturday afternoon.
He said: “It has been good to get back in the team and have a bit of a run. It was a disappointing visit to Chippenham but I thought the way we bounced back as a team and individually was good.
“We all stood up and were counted at Bristol City which was really positive, and hopefully we take that into Saturday’s game.
“We need to go into the Plymouth match with the same attitude that we go into all games with. I think that result on Tuesday gives us some real confidence as we beat a Championship side.”
Vernam also feels settled in the squad since arriving from Bradford City in the summer and believes that the strong competition for places in the team is healthy to have in order to succeed.
He added: “I think it is difficult to stamp your authority straight away when you come into any team. It is difficult to get that consistency when you have not had as much game time.
“The lads have helped me settle in and everyone has been really positive with me. I have really enjoyed being out there, so long may it continue.
“I think as players you need competition for places. If it is easy to get back into the team, there is no pressure on performances. We are all aware of the quality in the building and are all working hard to try and cement our place in the team.”
