Paudie O’Connor was delighted with the response shown from his team-mates to bounce back to winning ways.
The Irishman played a pivotal role at the heart of the defence as the Imps beat Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City and secured their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the first time since 1967.
He said: “We were obviously very disappointed at the weekend, especially for all the travelling fans that came down. We wanted to put it right and give them something to shout about, and I think you have seen that from the quick start.
“We were straight on the front foot and managed to get two early goals which set us on our way to the win. We were a bit disappointed not to keep the clean sheet as we did defend so well for large parts of the game, but we will take the win and move onto the next round.”
O’Connor put in a strong defensive performance at Ashton Gate on Tuesday evening but also scored his first goal for the club to help earn a place in the next round of the competition.
He continued: “I will take it - it just popped up for me and it will be one of the easier goals I will score in my career.
“It was good to get off the mark as it has been a long time coming. We have had a lot of set pieces this year which I have not managed to get on the end of, so it was nice to score.”
