Mark Kennedy believes his players deserved the plaudits following Tuesday’s progression in the Carabao Cup after a comfortable win against Championship opposition in Bristol City.
The victory at Ashton Gate ensured the Imps were in the fourth round of the competition for the first time since 1967/68 season, with the Imps' head coach insisting his side’s balanced mentality was crucial in rewriting the history books.
Kennedy said: “They absolutely deserve their moment because they are a brave group. They have stuck together and they always give you everything they have.
“I am pleased for them because we have always remained balanced, and we will continue to do so by not getting carried away with this result. We will be prepared to go again for another tough fixture on Saturday.”
The Imps’ attention now returns to Sky Bet League One action after a succession of cup ties.
Kennedy reiterated his side will approach the fixture with the same approach as City aim to retain their unbeaten league record at the LNER Stadium against high-flying Plymouth Argyle.
He added: “We don’t go into these games feeling as though we’re the underdog. Mine and the team’s approach is the same for every game and we believe we can win every match.
“It is important we continue to stay balanced, though. We spoke in the group about enjoying the moment, but we have a huge game on Saturday. It’s about maintaining our professionalism and having that elite mentality to look after ourselves properly.”
