City midfielder, Max Sanders, says he is relishing a number of new challenges including a slightly different style of play and playing in a more advanced role.
The 23-year-old was one of only two outfield players to have played the full 90 minutes against Grimsby in pre-season action on Tuesday night, and says he feels ready to go ahead of the start of the new season.
“It’s been a really hard pre-season, but it’s been a good one. Everyone has got minutes and so we’re strong and I’m feeling fit and ready to go,” he said.
“I feel as though I should have played more last season, but that is in the past now and I’m buzzing to get going this year. I want to help the team as much as I can, so I’ve tried to be as fit as possible and I’m ready to go now.”
Over the course of pre-season, Max has played in a more advanced midfield role which has presented him with new challenges.
“We still play an aggressive style but we’re pressing a little higher and from the front. Everyone knows their roles and it’s not too dissimilar but there are a few things that are a big change which I’ve enjoyed," he added.
“I can play anywhere within the midfield, but I’ve been playing as a number eight since Mark came in and I’ve enjoyed it. I like getting on the ball, but I still have a lot to work on in that position and I’m learning all the time, so it’s been good.”
