Whittaker joins Imps on loan

City have completed the loan signing of forward Morgan Whittaker until the end of the season.

Whittaker has more than 50 senior appearances under his belt for Derby County and current club Swansea City, and has represented England up to U20 level.

The 20-year-old started his career with Derby, making his professional debut against Scunthorpe United in August 2019 before going on to make 32 first-team appearances for the Rams.

He joined Sky Bet Championship side Swansea in February 2021 and scored his first goal for the Swans just nine days later when facing Manchester City in the Emirates FA Cup fifth round.

He caught the eye earlier this season with an 11-minute hat-trick in Swansea's 4-1 Carabao Cup win over League One promotion challengers Plymouth Argyle.

Imps boss Michael Appleton said: “He’s a quality player who can play as a forward or winger so gives us options. He’s quick and direct: he has the ability to drop into pockets of space well and also contributes with goals and assists.

"I think everyone knows how close we were to getting him in the summer, so we are really pleased to get this deal agreed early so we can get him straight into the group and ready to go."

Whittaker will be eligible for his debut in Saturday's visit of Oxford United to the LNER Stadium. Click here to secure your ticket.
