City’s Max Sanders has explained how his relationship with Matty Virtue has helped to form a strong midfield partnership for the Imps.
Sanders and Virtue have been ever-present in Mark Kennedy’s side over recent months, and City’s number six believes this partnership is one that has suited the pair since the Blackpool loanee arrived in the summer.
He said: “I think it’s a really good relationship and one where we complement each other well. He has a bit more experience than me and does a lot of things that go unnoticed, and I think we are working well together.
“Relationships can take a little bit of time to develop, but straight away when he walked through the door I thought we’d work well together. We both like getting on the ball, but also doing the defensive side too and trying to impact the game.”
Gametime is an opportunity Sanders has relished under the arrival of Kennedy in the summer, with the 23-year-old crediting his run of games to the hard work he put in during pre-season.
He added: “I have learned a lot from not playing as much as I would have liked last season, and I was properly focussed on being as fit as I could when I came back in the summer.
“I’ve been really pleased with the performances I have put in, particularly over recent games, and it’s just about finding that consistency.
“I just want to do as well as I can for the team and also trying to contribute goals and assists, but I am ready to push on and keep developing my game.”
