Mark Kennedy is relishing the opportunity to face Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
Kennedy said that his side have worked hard in the build up to the match, which will see the Imps compete in the fourth round of the competition for the first time since the 1960’s.
He said: “Nathan Jones is an incredibly experienced manager. They have an outstanding team and some very talented players. We have prepared for something specific and have worked hard on that.
“It’s a game we expect to be competitive in and it’s a great opportunity to give a good account of ourselves in what has been a really good season so far.”
Kennedy is also taking great pride from the prospect of returning to St Mary’s Stadium as a head coach but is certain he’s focused on the task in hand.
He added: “We can’t wait for the opportunity to play at an outstanding stadium. I have been fortunate enough myself to go there and it is a stunning setting.
“It is an incredibly proud moment for me to be the head coach of our club going to such a recognised opposition. I am sure it will be a proud moment for all the players too.
“They deserve it as we have had three away games which is not the easiest. We have performed well, scored goals and we deserve to be where we are.
“We are in the competition on merit. It is not a day out and is a game we will do our best to try and win.”
