Boss expects confident Imps

Michael Appleton says morale is high as the Imps return to action against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

With last weekend’s trip to Wigan Athletic postponed due to international call-ups, a fortnight’s gap between fixtures has allowed players to return - with Conor McGrandles, Joe Walsh and Chris Maguire all in contention after returning to full fitness.

Appleton said: “We want to start as we finished a couple of weeks back when I thought for much of the game against Plymouth we were good, especially in the second half.

“The next three weeks or so are going to be really busy with league games and an FA Cup fixture as well.”

Two home games in four days provides a real opportunity for City to put points on the board, and Appleton hops to see the LNER Stadium rocking again.

He added: “The home support has been good, you’ve only got to look back to the Plymouth game when it could have been difficult for us having gone back behind - but they got behind us and helped us.

“They’re going to be important this season because it’s a tough league, probably five or six times stronger than last season. We need to be competitive and show our fighting spirit, which everyone who was at the last game saw.”
