Exciting forward Jovon Makama has become the latest Lincoln City Scholar to sign professional terms with the club.
Jovon put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the club last week and said it was a proud day for him and his family.
“It feels amazing and I’m really happy. It’s a proud moment for me and my family. The hard work has paid off, but now I want to keep improving as a player.”
Jovon becomes the fourth Lincoln City Scholar to signs professional terms this season, following Hayden Cann, Sam Long and Sean Roughan. Jovon admitted it gave him extra motivation to keep pushing and highlights there is an opportunity to develop further as players and as people at Lincoln City.
“I stay in accommodation with the other Scholars, so seeing how they live was another motivation to keep pushing. I wanted to be in the same shoes as them and now I get the opportunity.”
The 17-year-old also played a part in the fantastic FA Youth Cup run which saw the young side reach the Fourth Round including victories against Solihull Moors, Oldham Athletic and Preston North End before going out in such unfortunate circumstances to Watford.
Director of Football Jez George added, “Jovon is a talented young player, who can play across the front line, and has demonstrated his undoubted potential throughout the season. He has all the physical attributes to become a professional footballer. He will now have the opportunity to train with our first team every day and take his first steps into senior football through a loan with Gainsborough Trinity next season.”
“Jovon has worked hard to reach this point but knows this is the only the start. The environment created by Michael and the standards set by our pros every day will help him to develop further. I should also highlight Jordan McCann (Academy Manager), Tom Shaw (PDP Lead Coach) and all the Academy staff for their work with Jovon over the first 12 months of his scholarship. Professional contracts are hard earned at Lincoln City, especially with the continued progress of our First Team, and Jovon deserves this opportunity.”
