Chairman's update ahead of first home game

Imps chairman Clive Nates has issued an update to fans ahead of the new season.

I hope you are all looking forward to the first home game of the season on Saturday. We all know the atmosphere you can create at the LNER Stadium and I am sure you will give all the lads a warm welcome as they take to the pitch again just before 3pm.

I desperately wish I could be there sat alongside you, but travel restrictions mean I’ll be watching via iFollow Imps. It won’t be as good, but I’m sure I’ll be kicking every ball just as those of you who are there in person will be.

Last season was a fantastic one on the pitch, and we head into this campaign with a real sense of belief. Our budget has improved, though we should also be clear that other clubs have also increased spending, with some significantly, following the scrapping of the salary cap that was in force last season.

Although we have made a number of new signings, some of whom you will undoubtedly see first-hand on Saturday, we expect a few more faces before the transfer deadline later this month.

It has been a busy summer down at the LNER Stadium. The new pitch looks great and will deal with some long-standing drainage issues, while the new temporary stand increases our capacity and we’ve revamped areas around the stadium.

Playing games behind closed doors last season was just not the same. You’ve got a big role to play for us this season in making matchdays special and the LNER Stadium a fortress for us again.
