Imps’ manager Michael Appleton was delighted with his side’s performance in this afternoon’s win over Ipswich Town at LNER Stadium.

Jorge Grant’s sixth goal of the season gave City all three points in a win that lifted The Imps to the top of Skybet League One, but Michael isn’t too focussed on the table right now although he admits it is pleasing however to see his side pick up as many points as his side have at this stage of the season.

“It’s great to get as many points on board as early as you can because we know we’re going to have a difficult point in the season. So, to get so many points as early as we can is great. We have a good momentum with everyone performing well, we hope we can all stay as healthy as there’s going to be some tough game ahead of us.”

Michael thought that The Imps were overall deserving of the victory against Paul Lambert’s side and highlighted that it was intelligent decision making by the players in key areas that brought the victory and he was happy to see his side pick up another clean sheet, making it five in eight league outings.

“The first half was as good as it gets against a top side, the way we switched the play and move the ball. But it’s difficult to produce that for two halves when you come up against a decent side. So, for us to do what we did in the second half and pick our moments to attack and get the reward with the penalty I’m happy with that.

“It’s a fifth shutout in eight games which is pleasing, it’s not easy to do that but there’s a lot of work that goes on to get those kinds of stats. But we have to stay humble as well.”

On Tuesday night, The Imps travel to face Crewe Alexandra for the second time this season after opening the campaign in the Carabao Cup at home of The Alex back in early September and Michael knows it’s going to be a tough test.

“There’s no easy games because there’s a lot of good sides in the league. When we went to Crewe at the start of the season in the Carabao Cup, it was a tough fixture. So, know how tough it’s going to be at Crewe on Tuesday and the players are well aware of that.”
