We are thrilled to announce that Dutch centre half, Lewis Montsma has joined the club on a three year deal following the expiry of his contract at FC Dordrecht.
The 22 year old ball playing defender has joined the club following a successful spell in the Dutch second division. Lewis, who was born in Amsterdam, started his youth career at AFC Amsterdam before moving to Eredivisie side SC Heerenveen featuring for their U17 and U19 sides. Following his four year stint at the Abe Lenstra Stadium, he signed for SC Cambuur making his mark in the U21 competition.
His performances attracted the attention of FC Dordrecht and the 6 foot 3 centre half has been a regular in their first team squad ever since making that move. In the summer of 2018, he marked his arrival early with a goal against Sparta Rotterdam. Lewis also played a vital role in their 1-0 win over soon to be champions, FC Twente.
Montsma made 23 league appearances for FC Dordrecht this season and he cannot wait to get started with City.
“I’m very happy, I think it’s an amazing club and I’m delighted to be here. From the National League to League One in four years is amazing and I think it’s the perfect move for me to play games and gain some experience in England”.
Lewis added, “The style, the people, the supporters, everything is so good over here. I’m a footballing central defender and I can’t wait to play in front of our fans”.
Michael Appleton was really pleased to sign Montsma, “Lewis is a very versatile defender who can play either side at centre half. He is a physical specimen and I’m thrilled to have signed him. He uses the ball really well and is comfortable with both feet in possession whilst being very aggressive out of possession. I’m sure he’ll be a real asset to this club”.
