Jorge Grant was naturally disappointed this evening as The Imps were defeated at LNER Stadium by Portsmouth.
The attacking midfielder admits that the opposition were a tough nut to crack on a frustrating night for all of a City persuasion in the ground: “We’re disappointed, we want this to continue to be a tough place for people to come, as it has been. So, it’s very disappointing.
“They’re a good team, they setup really well against us and sort of stopped what we wanted to do and we created limited chances but I don’t think they created too many chances. To concede a set piece goal was disappointing then of course a penalty when we were going for it towards the end.”
Pompey had an indifferent start to the season and have since bounced back to be in a rich vein of form of late, and Jorge says that the defeat to Kenny Jackett’s side can serve as the perfect motivation for the team going forward.
“I think especially when we played them away from home earlier in the season, they weren’t as good as they were here. We know what need to look at when we look to the build-up for the next few games, we need to be a little stronger defensively and then be able to create more opportunities in attacking areas.”
Jorge admits that City weren’t at their best this evening, but he points to things going in the right direction as attentions quickly turned to getting back on the front foot on Saturday when The Imps travel to face Southend United at Roots Hall.
“It was frustrating, but we know the way we want to play. We’ll get that within time, we’re still building and we are getting better as a group. We all want to improve and there’s no doubt we want to go and get three points this weekend.”
