Following the signing of Tom Hopper on Thursday, John Akinde has today left Lincoln City to join Skybet League One side, Gillingham.
The 30-year-old forward departs for the Gills for an undisclosed fee after making 81 appearances in all competitions and netting 25 goals in the process whilst in the colours of The Imps.
John joined City in the summer of 2018 from Barnet and was quick to get off the mark in the red and white shirt, scoring his first goal in the home win over Swindon Town from the penalty spot which opened the door for a 4-1 win over The Robins.
That first goal for the club was followed by three more in consecutive appearances for the powerful front man, infact he made it five in his first eight games before finishing the season as top goalscorer for the Skybet League Two champions with 17 goals to his name.
John started the current campaign quickly, rolling home the second goal from the penalty spot in City’s opening game of the season against Accrington Stanley. The big striker’s final act for The Imps came as a second half substitute against Bolton Wanderers at LNER Stadium in mid-January, when he scored a brace against the Trotters in the convincing 5-1 win over Keith Hill’s side.
We would like to thank John for his services during his time at the club and wish him well for the future.
