City go into this weekend’s match having beat Wigan Athletic and Swindon Town in their last two league fixtures and currently sit second in the league standings with 29 points.
Michael Appleton explained how tight the league is this season saying: “You can’t go into games at 70 or 80 percent, you have to be sharp and have the right attitude.
“The league is really competitive this season and we can see that because there isn’t an easy game, the table shows that.
“We have had a big load put on our players recently so we will do our best to keep them in the best condition.”
The City manager continued by speaking about the Imps’ preparation, saying how his side have done well against tough opponents in recent weeks.
“We did post-match analysis with the Wigan game and have looked at the positives as well as points we need to improve on. We have shown really good stuff recently, and we have to respect the opposition.
“I think the last two league games have been difficult because Swindon pressed us high and they were very physical at times. It was similar the other night against Wigan because they were well organised and structured.”
Michael finished by discussing Saturday’s opponents with Rochdale going into Saturday’s fixture having secured three points against Plymouth Argyle in a 4-0 away win on Tuesday.
“They are a patient side; they like to play through the lines and have runners in the final third,” said the Imps boss.
“It will be a good test for us, and they tend to play with freedom, there are three or four sides like that in this league. They are competitive and seem to do well every year as a group.
“It is another game for us to put a marker on and see where we are at this stage in the season.”
